  1. ORGANIZING AUTHORITY

    The organizing authority for this regatta is Beverly Yacht Club (BYC), Marion, MA (http://www.beverlyyachtclub.org) in conjunction with the International J/80 Class Association (http://www.j80.org) and the USA J/80 Class Association.

  2. RULES

    This regatta shall be governed by the “rules” as defined by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Racing Rules of Sailing (2009-2012), except as any of these are modified by the Sailing Instructions and any amendments thereto. This changes RRS 63.7.

  3. ADVERTISING

    3.1 This event is classified as Category C in accordance with ISAF Regulation 20, Advertising Code.

    3.2 CR C.7.1 Restrictions on Category C Advertising apply.

  4. ELIGIBILITY

    The Regatta is open only to members of the J/80 Class (IJCA) as defined by the J/80 Class Rules (CR) and in compliance with their association for the year 2010.

  5. ENTRIES

    5.1 Entries are to be made online.

    5.2 The fee for entries is $425 per boat. The entry fee includes launch and haul; 3 days of racing; mooring or dock space; social activities for skippers and up to 3 additional crew members on Friday and Saturday evenings, continental breakfast on Friday, Saturday and Sunday; and awards reception on Sunday after racing.

    5.3 All boats shall present a valid J80 Measurement Certificate, proof of IJCA membership for the owner and helmsman, a completed Owner Regatta Declaration, an Event Release, a signed Crew Weight Declaration and a waiver for minors (for sailors under the age of 18) before the close of check-in.

    5.4 Cut off for entries is September 8, 2010. A late fee of $75.00 will be applied after August 26, 2010.

    5.5 An entry is not complete and a yacht will not be permitted to compete until the entry fee and all documentation required in 5.3 have been filed with the organizing authority.

  6. MEASUREMENT

    6.1 Each boat must possess a valid Measurement Certificate.

    6.2 All helmsmen and crew will be weighed at check-in in accordance with CR C.3.1.

    6.3 Boats and sails may be subject to inspection and measurement to ensure compliance with the CR as provided by RRS 78.

  8. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

    Sailing Instructions will be available at registration. The official message board will be located at the Beverly Yacht Club.

  9. COURSES

    Windward / Leeward courses will be sailed on Buzzards Bay. Leeward gates and offset marks may be used at the discretion of the race committee.

  10. SCORING

    10.1 Two races are required to be completed to constitute a series

    10.2 When fewer than six races have been completed, each yacht's series score will be the sum of her scores for all races. When six or more races have been completed, each yacht's series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score. This Changes RRS Appendix A2.

  11. CREW

    Each yacht's crew shall not be changed during the regatta, except with a written request for crew substitution and prior written approval by the race committee. Substitution after the skippers meeting will be permitted only in exceptional circumstances.

  12. PRIZES

    12.1 Daily Prizes will be awarded for the winner of each race.

    12.2 Overall prizes will be awarded for first through fifth place.

  13. HAUL-OUT RESTRICTIONS

    Boats shall not be hauled out during the regatta except with and according to the terms of prior written permission of the race committee.

  14. DIVING EQUIPMENT AND PLASTIC POOLS

    Underwater breathing apparatus and plastic pools or their equivalent shall not be used around boats between the preparatory signal of the first race and the end of the regatta.

  15. RADIO COMMUNICATIONS

    15.1 A boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.

    15.2 The Signal boat will communicate with competitors on VHF.

  16. RESPONSIBILITY

    16.1 The safety of a boat and its crew is the sole and inescapable responsibility of the Skipper who must ensure that the boat is fully sound, thoroughly seaworthy and manned by an experienced and physically capable crew. Neither the establishment of regulations or inspection of a boat in any way limits or reduces the complete and unlimited responsibility of the Skipper.

  17. MEDIA RIGHTS

    By entering this event, competitors give absolute right and permission to the Beverly Yacht Club, ISAF Recognized J/80 Class Association, and the J/80 Class Association USA Fleet#12 for any photography and video footage taken of persons and boats during the event to be published in any media worldwide whatsoever for any editorial, promotional, and advertising purposes and to be used in press information.
